The Sun (Al-Shams)
15 verses, revealed in Mecca after Destiny (Al-Qadr) before The Galaxies (Al-Burooj)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 And by oath of the moon when it follows the sun 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 by the night, when it envelops it! 4 And by the heaven and Him Who built it; 5 And [by] the earth and He who spread it 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it. 8 He has succeeded who purifies it, 9 and failed has he who seduces it. 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 When the most wicked man among them went forth (to kill the she-camel). 12 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink! 13 But they belied him, and hamstrung her. So their Lord crushed them for their sin and leveled it (their village). 14 And He feared not the consequence thereof 15
