۞ Gather together the evildoers, their wives, and that they were worshipping, 22 “Instead of Allah – and herd them to the path leading to hell.” 23 And stop them; indeed, they are to be questioned." 24 “What is the matter with you, that you do not help one another?” 25 No, today they will resign themselves in submission, 26 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 27 They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right." 28 They will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were not believers. 29 “And we did not have any control over you; but in fact you yourselves were rebellious.” 30 and so we became deserving of the Word of our Lord that we shall be made to suffer chastisement. 31 We mislead you and we ourselves had also gone astray." 32 Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty. 33 As such We shall deal with the evildoers. 34 Verily when it was said unto them: there is no god but Allah, they ever grew stiff-necked. 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 Nay: he has come with the truth and verified the apostles. 37 you shall surely taste the painful punishment, 38 And you shall not be rewarded except (for) what you did. 39 But the sincere servants of God 40 Those! theirs shall be a provision known: 41 Fruits; and they shall be honoured, 42 In Gardens of Delight. 43 sitting face to face upon couches, 44 A drink will be passed round among them from a flowing spring: 45 White and delicious to the drinkers; 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes, 48 who are as chaste as sheltered eggs. 49 And they will all turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 50 The speaker among them said, “I had a companion.” – 51 Who used to say: Art thou in truth of those who put faith (in his words)? 52 Shall we be recompensed for our deeds after we die and become bones and dust? 53 (The man) said: "Will you look down?" 54 And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire. 55 He said: "By Allah! You have nearly ruined me. 56 “And were it not for the munificence of my Lord, I too would have been seized and brought forth (captive)!” 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 [again,] beyond our previous death, and that we shall never [again] be made to suffer? 59 This is certainly the greatest triumph 60 For the like of this then let the workers work. 61 Is this better or the tree of Zaqqum 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 for, behold, it is a tree that grows in the very heart of the blazing fire [of hell,] 64 its spathes are like the heads of satans 65 The dwellers of hell will eat that fruit and fill-up their bellies. 66 And behold, above all this they will be confounded with burning despair! 67 And once again: Verily, the blazing fire is their ultimate goal 68 They indeed found their fathers astray, 69 and they run in their footsteps. 70 And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them; 71 though We had sent warners among them. 72 Look, then how was the end of those who had been warned, 73 Only Our sincere servants were saved. 74
