Jonah too was one of the Envoys; 139 He ran away to the laden ship, 140 And then drew lots and was of those rejected; 141 And a fish swallowed him, and he was reproaching himself. 142 Had it not been that he (repented and) glorified Allah, 143 He would certainly have tarried in its belly to the day when they are raised. 144 ۞ but We cast him upon the wilderness, and he was sick, 145 And We caused a tree of gourd to grow above him; 146 And We sent him to a hundred thousand (folk) or more 147 and [this time] they believed [in him] and so We allowed them to enjoy their life during the time allotted to them? 148 So inquire of them, [O Muhammad], "Does your Lord have daughters while they have sons? 149 Or did We make the angels females, and they witnessed it? 150 Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say, 151 That “Allah has offspring”; and indeed, surely, they are liars. 152 Did He choose daughters rather than sons? 153 What is the matter with you that you make such strange judgements? 154 Will you not then mind? 155 Or have you a clear authority? 156 Then bring your scripture, if what you say is true. 157 They have said that there is a relationship between Him and the jinn. The jinn certainly know that they will all be brought to suffer torment. 158 Glory be to God above that they describe, 159 Except the slaves of Allah, whom He choses (for His Mercy i.e. true believers of Islamic Monotheism who do not attribute false things unto Allah). 160 You and whatever you worship 161 you shall tempt none against Him 162 Save him who will go to hell. 163 The angels say, "Each of us has an appointed place. 164 and, verily, we too are ranged [before Him in worship]; 165 And indeed, we are those who exalt Allah." 166 AND, INDEED, they [who deny the truth] have always been wont to say, 167 “If only we had the Reminder which had been granted to the people of yore 168 We would certainly have been the servants of Allah-- the purified ones. 169 But they disbelieved in it, so they are going to know. 170 We decreed that Our Messenger servants 171 That verily they! they shall be made triumphant. 172 and that Our hosts shall triumph. 173 So turn thou from them for a while, 174 And see [what will befall] them, for they are going to see. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our punishment? 176 But when it shall descend in their court, evil shall then be the morning of the warned ones. 177 Leave them alone for a while, 178 and watch. They, too, will watch. 179 Hallowed be thine Lord, the Lord of Majesty, from that which they ascribe! 180 And peace be unto those sent (to warn). 181 And all praise is due to God alone, the Sustainer of all the worlds! 182
