The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
The Hour (of Judgment) is nigh, and the moon is cleft asunder. 1 Yet if they see a sign (the unbelievers) turn their backs and say: 'This is but a continuation of sorcery' 2 They reject (the warning) and follow their (own) lusts but every matter has its appointed time. 3 Surely there came to them narratives (of the ancient nations) that should suffice to deter (them from transgression), 4 which are full of wisdom; but the warnings do not help. 5 so ignore them. On the Day when the Crier will call out about a horrible event, 6 with downcast eyes they shall come out of their graves, as if they were locusts milling about 7 Hastening towards the caller, the disbelievers will say: "This is a hard Day." 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied [the truth] before them. They belied Our messenger saying, "He is mad!" He was rebuffed, 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 Then We opened the gates of heaven unto water torrential, 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs, so the waters met (and rose) to the extent decreed. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 floated on under Our eyes: a vindication of him who had been rejected. 14 And indeed, We have left this as a sign, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 15 Then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 16 And assuredly We have made the Qur'an easy for admonition; is there then any one who would be admonished? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 Lo! We let loose on them a raging wind on a day of constant calamity, 19 Tearing men away as if they were the trunks of palm-trees torn up. 20 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 21 We have made the Koran easy to remember, is there any that will remember? 22
