The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Last Day came near, and the moon split apart. 1 But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing," 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 Tidings containing a deterrent have come to them 4 Mature wisdom;- but (the preaching of) Warners profits them not. 5 (Muhammad), leave them alone. On the day when they will be called to a terrible punishment, 6 They will come out from the graves with eyes lowered, as if they were spread locusts. 7 These disbelievers will say, "This is a hard day". 8 ۞ Before these, the people of Nooh denied and they belied Our bondman and said, “He is a madman” and rebuffed him. 9 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “I am overpowered, therefore avenge me.” 10 So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 We caused the earth to burst forth with springs so that the waters could come together for a predestined purpose. 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 running before Our eyes-a recompense for him denied. 14 And We left it as a sign, so is there any who will remember? 15 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 16 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 We sent a tumultuous wind against them on a day of unremitting misfortune, 19 which tore people away and hurled them as though they were trunks of uprooted palm-trees. 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 22
