The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken violently, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 on lavish couches 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 and extended shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And raised couches. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
