A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 Under the shadow of thick black smoke 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 They used to say: “What! Once we are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, shall we still be raised to a new life from the dead? 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 "Then will ye truly,- O ye that go wrong, and treat (Truth) as Falsehood!- 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 filling your bellies, with it 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 This is their reception on the Day of Justice. 56 It is We Who have created you: why will ye not witness the Truth? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Do you yourselves create it, or are We the Creators? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten – 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 Nay! we are deprived. 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
