These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 In fierce hot wind and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 And persisted obstinately in wickedness supreme! 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 shall be gathered together to the appointed time on a known Day' 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 This is their reception on the Day of Justice. 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 It is We Who ordained death upon you and We are not to be frustrated. 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 "We are ruined, 66 Nay! we are deprived. 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
