A numerous company from among the first, 39 and many from the later generations. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 did you create it or did We? 59 It is We Who have ordained death among you, and We have not been beaten – 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
