The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 No one can defend him against God, the Lord of the exalted positions. 3 The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 But We see it very near. 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And not a friend shall ask a friend, 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And all, all that is on earth,- so it could deliver him: 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 and amass [wealth] and thereupon withhold [it from their fellow-men]. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 except those that pray 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 those who firmly believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 except from their wives and slave girls, in which case they are not to be blamed, 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 And those who keep their trusts and covenants; 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
