In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Rise to pray in the night except a little, 2 half of it, or reduce it a little; 3 or add a little), and chant the Koran very distinctly; 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a Guardian. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 for, behold, heavy fetters [await them] with Us, and a blazing fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment, 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him remorselessly. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 the Day whose severity shall cause the heaven to split asunder? Allah's promise is ever bound to be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
