The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 Endued with Wisdom: for he appeared (in stately form); 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
