Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Certainly the news of the calamity that will overwhelm has come to you! 1 On that Day faces shall be humbled, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 [Other] faces, that Day, will show pleasure. 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 In a high Garden. 10 They shall hear therein no vain discourse; 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and well spread carpets. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 you are not their keeper. 22 Save the one who turns away and disbelieves 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Then it will be for Us to call them to account. 26
