The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 By no means! anon they shall know. 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We have created you in pairs; 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 and We have set therein a glowing lamp. 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 And gardens of luxurious growth? 16 Verily the Day of Sorting out is a thing appointed, 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 and the heaven shall be opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 a return for the insolent, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink, 24 But boiling and intensely cold water, 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment. 30
