He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 olives, dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
