Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In a high Garden 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 and raised couches, 13 well arranged goblets, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And linen spread out. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And the mountains how they have been established? 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
