In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read - for thy Sustainer is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)]. 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 Because he sees himself self-sufficient. 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 HAST THOU ever considered him who tries to prevent 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Have you seen if he was upon guidance 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call his assembly, 17 We shall call the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
