Said the chieftains of Firaun’s people, “He is really an expert magician.” 109 Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?" 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 to bring thee every cunning sorcerer.' 112 The magicians came to the Pharaoh and said, "We must have our reward if we are to gain a victory over him (Moses)". 113 "Yes," said he, "you will be among the honoured." 114 They said, "O Moses, either you throw [your staff], or we will be the ones to throw [first]." 115 Said Moses: "Throw ye (first)." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people, and struck terror into them: for they showed a great (feat of) magic. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ whereupon the truth was established, and vain was proved all that they had been doing. 118 Thus they were vanquished there, and they went back abased. 119 And the sorcerers fell down prostrate. 120 Saying: "We believe in the Lord of the Worlds,- 121 The Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "You have believed in him [Musa (Moses)] before I give you permission. Surely, this is a plot which you have plotted in the city to drive out its people, but you shall come to know. 123 I will cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and then crucify you all' 124 They said: Lo! We are about to return unto our Lord! 125 “And what did you dislike in us, except that we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Pour (bestow abundantly) patience on us, and bestow us death as Muslims.” 126
