The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. [These letters are one of the miracles of the Quran, and none but Allah (Alone) knows their meanings]. These are the Verses of the Book, and a plain Quran. 1 Often will those who disbelieve wish that they had been Muslims. 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 And We have not destroyed a town but there was therefor a decree known. 4 No nation can outstrip its term nor can they lag behind. 5 And they say: O thou unto whom the Reminder is revealed, lo! thou art indeed a madman! 6 Why bringest thou not angels unto us if thou art of the truthtellers! 7 But We send down the angels only to bring justice and then they will not be reprieved. 8 We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption). 9 We sent messengers before you to the previous peoples, 10 And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him. 11 thus We cause this [habit of mocking] to enter into the hearts of the sinful. 12 They believe not therein, though the example of the men of old hath gone before. 13 And even if We open to them a gateway of heaven, so that they ascend into it all the while, 14 they would surely have said, "It is only our eyes that are spellbound! Nay, we have been bewitched! 15
