He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of the noble, virtuous, 15 Noble and pious. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 And olives and palms 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 laughing and joyful, 39 And some faces will on that Day with dust be covered, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
