We sent a revelation to Moses saying, "Take away My servants by night and strike for them a dry path through the sea. Have no fear of being overtaken and do not be afraid." 77 Pharaoh pursued them with his hosts, but they were fully overwhelmed by the sea. 78 Pharaoh led his people astray instead of leading them aright. 79 O Children of Israel! We delivered you from your enemy, and We made a covenant with you on the right side of the Mount, and We sent down to you Al-Manna and quails, 80 'Eat of the good things wherewith We have provided you; but exceed not therein, or My anger shall alight on you; and on whomsoever My anger alights, that man is hurled to ruin. 81 And lo! verily I am Forgiving toward him who repenteth and believeth and doeth good, and afterward walketh aright. 82 ۞ "And what made you hasten from your people, O Musa (Moses)?" 83 He said: "They are close on my footsteps, and I hastened to You, O my Lord, that You might be pleased." 84 He said: So surely We have tried your people after you, and the Samiri has led them astray. 85 Moses returned to his people in anger and great sorrow. He said, "My people, did your Lord not make you a handsome promise? Was my absence too long for you? Did you desire that your Lord's wrath should descend upon you, when you broke your promise to me?" 86 They said: "We broke not the promise to you, of our own will, but we were made to carry the weight of the ornaments of the [Fir'aun's (Pharaoh)] people, then we cast them (into the fire), and that was what As-Samiri suggested." 87 Then he produced the image of a calf which mooed like a cow. And they said: 'This is your god and the god of Moses (whom) he has neglected." 88 Did they not see that it could not return them a word (for answer), and that it had no power either to harm them or to do them good? 89
