He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified. 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and in awe [of God] 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 So when the deafening Shout arrives, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
