Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 so fear you God, and obey you me. 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 Build ye on every eminence a landmark in vanity? 128 And take ye for yourselves castles that haply ye may abide. 129 And when you lay hands (on men) you lay hands (like) tyrants; 130 So guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 Gave you increase of cattle and sons, 133 And gardens and springs. 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 and we shall not be chastised.' 138 So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
