۞ Muster those who did evil, their wives, and that they were serving, 22 Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 "'What is the matter with you that ye help not each other?'" 25 They will submit to questioning then, 26 They will turn to each other saying, 27 They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right." 28 They will say: "No, you were the ones who would not believe. 29 We had no authority over you, but you were an insolent nation. 30 So the word of our Lord has come into effect upon us; indeed, we will taste [punishment]. 31 Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.' 32 So, they will become partners in punishment. 33 Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. 34 Verily when it was said unto them: there is no god but Allah, they ever grew stiff-necked. 35 saying, 'What, shall we forsake our gods for a poet possessed?' 36 Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 and not be recompensed, except according to what you were doing.' 39 But Allah's chosen servants (shall be spared this woeful end). 40 For them is a Sustenance determined, 41 Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured 42 In Gardens of Felicity, 43 Facing one another on thrones. 44 A drink will be passed round among them from a flowing spring: 45 White, delicious for the drinkers. 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 As if they were eggs carefully protected. 49 They will turn to each other and ask questions. 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 who would say: "Are you among the believers (of the resurrection)? 52 Can we, when we are dead and have become mere dust and bones - can we (then) verily be brought to book? 53 And he will reply: 'Are you looking down (into Hell)' 54 Then he will look and see him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He says, 'By God, wellnigh thou didst destroy me; 56 But for Allah's favour, I should be one of those who have been mustered here. 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 Except our previous death? And we shall not be chastised? 59 Truly, this is a great victory!" 60 for the like of this let the workers work.' 61 Is this better or the tree of Zaqqum 62 We have made this tree a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 It is a tree that grows in the nethermost part of Hell. 64 Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils. 65 and they eat of it, and of it fill their bellies, 66 And behold, above all this they will be confounded with burning despair! 67 then surely they shall return to Hell. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 So in their footsteps they are being hastened on. 70 And truly before them, many of the ancients went astray;- 71 And indeed We had sent Heralds of warnings among them. 72 Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned, 73 Save the bondmen of Allah sincere. 74
