Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Faces on that day humbled, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 They will suffer the heat of the blazing fire 4 Given to drink of a spring fiercely boiling. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 in a sublime garden, 10 wherein they shall hear no vain talk. 11 In it there shall be a flowing spring, 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And cups set at hand. 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 You are not at all a guardian over them. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 Then verily on Us is their reckoning. 26
