a multitude of the ancients, 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 They will live amid the scorching, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 and persisted in the Great Sin, 46 And they used to say, "When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?" 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 and will have to fill your bellies therewith, 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Just consider the semen that you emit, 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Have you considered what you sow? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 [Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt; 66 "Nay, but we are deprived!" 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Did you send it down from the clouds, or did We send it? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Is it you who have produced its tree or is it We who have produced it? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
