And assuredly We delivered the Children of Isra'il from an ignominous torment 30 [inflicted on them] by Pharaoh, seeing that he was truly outstanding among those who waste their own selves; 31 and We chose them, out of a knowledge above the nations (of their time). 32 And We vouchsafed unto them signs wherein was a manifest favour. 33 Lo! these, forsooth, are saying: 34 "There is nothing beyond our first death, and we shall not be raised again. 35 So bring our fathers (back), if you are truthful. 36 What! Are they better than the people of Tubba and those who were before them? We destroyed them because they were guilty of sin. 37 It was not in idle sport that We created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them. 38 We created them with definite purpose; but most of them do not understand. 39 Indeed, the Day of Judgement is the appointed time for them all - 40 A day when friend can in naught avail friend, nor can they be helped, 41 Except those upon whom Allah has mercy; indeed He only is the Most Honourable, the Most Merciful. 42
