The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Mount 1 And the Scripture inscribed 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 And the House frequented, 4 And by the roof raised high (i.e. the heaven). 5 and the sea that is full 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 There is none can avert it;- 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 and the mountains are in motion, 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 rejoicing in all their Lord has given them, and their Lord will guard them against the punishment of Hell. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 There they shall pass from hand to hand a (wine) cup, free from any Laghw (dirty, false, evil vague talk between them), and free from sin (because it will be legal for them to drink). 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
