The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 By the book inscribed. 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 The roof raised high, 5 And the swollen sea, 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers 11 Those who are playing in pursuits. 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. 20 And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
