The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 Behold, the Lote-tree was shrouded (in mystery unspeakable!) 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 That indeed is an unfair division -- 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or is there for man whatever he wishes? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
