The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Star when it plunges, 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 Neither does he speak of his own will. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 near which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 He saw some of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
