The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Event will come to pass 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and spreading shade 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 and raised couches 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virginal, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
