The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 On lined couches, 15 facing one another. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 like hidden pearls, 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and serried acacias, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
