Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
52 verses, revealed in Mecca after Kingship (Al-Mulk) before The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ The sure calamity! 1 What is the Inevitable Reality? 2 And what have you understood, how tremendous the true event is! 3 The tribes of Thamud and 'Aad belied the Striking Day. 4 So regarding the Thamud, they were destroyed by a terrible scream. 5 and the 'Ad were destroyed by a furious wind 6 He forced it upon them with strength, consecutively for seven nights and eight days so you would see those people overthrown in it, like trunks of date palms fallen down. 7 Can you see any remnant of them now? 8 The Pharaoh, those who lived before him and the people of the Subverted Cities all persisted in doing evil. 9 They disobeyed the Messenger of their Lord and He seized them with torment which increased with time. 10 Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried your ancestors in the sailing ship 11 so that We might make it a reminder for you and so that attentive ears might retain it. 12 When a single blast is blown on the trumpet, 13 when the earth with all its mountains is lifted up and crushed with a single blow, 14 On that day shall the great event come to pass, 15 And the heaven will split asunder, for that day it will be frail. 16 and the angels will stand on the sides, with eight of them bearing aloft the Throne of your Lord on that Day. 17 That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed. 18 He who is given his ledger in his right hand, will say: "Here, read my ledger. 19 Verily I was sure that I would be handed over my account.” 20 They will have a pleasant life 21 in a high Garden, 22 Clusters whereof shall be near at hand. 23 'Eat and drink with wholesome appetite for that you did long ago, in the days gone by.' 24 But as for him who is given his book in his left hand, he shall say, 'Would that I had not been given my book 25 and that we would never knew what our records contained. 26 Would that death had taken us away for good. 27 "My wealth has not availed me, 28 "My power and arguments (to defend myself) have gone from me!" 29 [Allah will say], "Seize him and shackle him. 30 and then let him enter hell, 31 Then into a chain whose length is seventy cubits insert him." 32 Lo! He used not to believe in Allah the Tremendous, 33 Nor he urged on others the feeding of the poor. 34 Wherefore for him here this Day there is no friend. 35 Nor any food save filth 36 which none but the sinners eat!" 37
