In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 A half of it or a little less 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 Remember the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself devoutly to Him. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 upon the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains become a slipping heap of sand. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is an Admonition: therefore, whoso will, let him take a (straight) path to his Lord! 19
