The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
