The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
