Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And pollution shun. 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and who still desires more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
