He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to a rich man, 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And whereas he fears, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Not this way – this is the advice. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble, pious. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and fodder 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 his wife and his children. 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
