Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 that is fueled from a tremendously hot fountain, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 And cushions ranged 15 and carpets spread out. 16 Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created? 17 And at the sky - how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
