Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 On that day the faces of some people will be humbly cast down, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a fiercely boiling spring. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 in a sublime garden, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 And cups put in place 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 Then do they not look at the camels - how they are created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And at the Mountains, how they are fixed firm?- 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Allah will chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
