Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 by the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 led rebellious lives, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And hell is made to appear on that day. On that day shall man be mindful, and what shall being mindful (then) avail him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
