The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few from among the latter. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And spreading shade, 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And raised couches; 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
