Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Dawn, 1 and the ten nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 O you tranquil soul, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
