The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 And attentive to her Lord in fear, 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 and casts out what is within it and is emptied, 4 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 5 Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence). 6 Then he who is given his Record in his right hand, 7 shall be called to an easy accounting, 8 and will [be able to] turn joyfully to those of his own kind. 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 he shall call for destruction 11 And he will enter a Blazing Fire. 12 Truly, did he go about among his people, rejoicing! 13 he surely thought he would never revert. 14 Yea indeed! His Sustainer did see all that was in him! 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 and the moon when it grows full, 18 Surely ye shall ride layer upon layer. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 Whereas Allah knoweth best that which they cherish. 23 Wherefore announce thou unto them a torment afflictive. 24 Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted. 25
