The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it covers 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 and by Him Who created the male and the female: 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And affirms goodness, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 And verify Ours is both the Hereafter and the life present. 13 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 not as payment for favours received, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 and he shall surely be satisfied. 21
