۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 Recall, when he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to which you are devoutly clinging?" 52 They said: we found our fathers the worshippers thereof. 53 He said: assuredly ye, ye and your fathers, have been in error manifest. 54 They said, "Have you come to us with truth, or are you of those who jest?" 55 He said, "Nay, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, He Who created them (from nothing): and I am a witness to this (Truth). 56 And [he added to himself.] "By God, I shall most certainly bring about the downfall of your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone away!" 57 He broke them all into pieces, except their great one so that they might return to it. 58 They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 The others said: "Bring him, then, before the eyes of the people that they may see (what will be done to him)." 61 'Abraham' they said, 'was it you who did this to our gods' 62 He said: "Nay, this was done by - this is their biggest one! ask them, if they can speak intelligently!" 63 And so they turned upon one another, saying, "Behold, it is you who are doing wrong." 64 But then they relapsed into their former way of thinking and said: "Thou knowest very well that these [idols] cannot speak!" 65 He said: worship ye, then, beside Allah, that which profiteth you not at all, nor it hurteth you? 66 "Fie upon you, and upon that which you worship besides Allah! Have you then no sense?" 67 They said, 'Burn him, and help your gods, if you would do aught.' 68 We (Allah) said: "O fire! Be you coolness and safety for Ibrahim (Abraham)!" 69 And they wished to set a snare for him, but We made them the greater losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lut towards the land which We have blessed for the entire world. 71 And We bestowed him Ishaq, and Yaqub the grandson; and We made all of them worthy of Our proximity. 72 and appointed them leaders to guide by Our Command and We revealed to them to do good deeds, and to establish the prayer, and the giving of charity, and they were for Us worshipers. 73 And We gave Lut the kingdom and knowledge, and We rescued him from the township that committed vile deeds; indeed those evil people were disobedient. 74 whereas him We admitted unto Our grace: for, behold, he was among the righteous. 75
