The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 Your companion [Muhammad] has not strayed, nor has he erred, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 He revealed to God's servant whatever he wanted. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 (Muhammad's) eyes did not deceive him, nor did they lead him to falsehood. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the other? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 This is an unfair distinction! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
