The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 Then as for him who giveths and feareth Him. 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We will make smooth for him the path of ease (goodness). 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Truly! Ours it is (to give) guidance, 12 And truly, unto Us (belong) the last (Hereafter) and the first (this world). 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 in which none shall be roasted except the most wretched sinner, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 who spend for the cause of God and purify themselves. 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 He verily will be content. 21
