The people of 'Ad, too, rejected the messengers. 123 Their brother Hud asked them, "Why do you not have fear of God? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 Do you build monuments on every high place in vanity, 128 And take ye for yourselves castles that haply ye may abide. 129 When you attack, you attack as tyrants do. 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 He has given you abundance of cattle and children 133 And orchards and springs. 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They replied, "It makes no difference to us whether you preach or do not preach, 136 This is but a fable of the men of old, 137 They rejected him and We destroyed them. 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
